BORZOV FEDOR IVANOVICH (1926–1978)

Fighter of the partisan detachment named after Kirov, operating in Czechoslovakia. Born on April 10, 1926 in the village of Panteleevka, Simferopol district, Crimean SSR.

When the Great Patriotic War began, the boy was 15 years old. His father volunteered to go to the front. Fyodor became the head of the family, besides him there were six more brothers and sisters. Then the occupation of Crimea began. The teenager had to go through difficult trials: how provide for his family? He had to take on any work that came up.

In 1944, among other villagers, Fyodor was taken to Germany to work, but on the way he escaped and ended up in Slovakia, where he joined the local partisans. Fyodor Borzov fought for about ten months as part of the detachment, took part in the Slovak National Uprising, in the campaign to Banska Bistrica. Together with a group of partisans, he derailed six enemy echelons.

From the memoirs of Fyodor Borzov:

"I was a partisan in Vasily's detachment, in Belov's detachment, and in the Kirov detachment commanded by Pyotr Shishkalov and Pavel Aristarkhov. As a part of these detachments, I had almost a year to beat Hitlerites. I remembered the famous Slovak national uprising. We also took part in its preparation and combat operations. I was on the march to Banska Bistrica. I shared the joys of victory with my Slovak brothers when, together with the rebellious Slovak army, we held the capital of the uprising, Banska Bistrica, for two months. I had to share with my new friends the bitterness of failure as well. The Nazis threw their divisions from Poland at us. At that time there was a fascist coup in Hungary, and General Geffle moved divisions against us from the Hungarian side. We withdrew back into the mountains... The partisan warfare in Slovakia developed with even greater vigour. I had the opportunity to participate in several sabotage raids, which ended with the bombing of six German military echelons."

In January 1945, Fyodor Borzov joined the Red Army. Together with Soviet soldiers, he liberated Presov, Banska Bistrica, Bratislava, and Prague.
The Order on awarding F.I. Borzov with the Order of Glory of the III degree was signed on May 8, 1945. He was also awarded the medal "For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945".
Award list and Order on awarding F.I. Borzov with the Order of Glory, III degree
"I remember the residents of Banska Bistrica. I remember how with great joy they twice welcomed us, the liberators, in the streets and squares, how they decorated houses, towers and arches with flags. But my greatest gratitude goes to that railway keeper. He was the first to meet us on Slovakian soil on 23 April 1944. He pointed us in the right direction. A big Russian thank you!”
Borzov Fyodor Ivanovich
After the war Fyodor Ivanovich returned to his native village, got married, and had two children in his family, Semyon and Nina. He worked in the collective farm "Zavet Ilyicha". Fedor Borzov is remembered today not only in Crimea, but also in Slovakia. His name was included in the history of the Slovak people's struggle against fascism for liberation from Hitler's yoke.
